I was a princess of a noble and royal line. We ruled our people with grace and dignity, and self-sacrifice defined our role. On that day, I walked with my father, mother, and brother down the right hand aisle into the pit of the fallen. Others of the noble line walked behind us and beside us on the left hand aisle, while the priests stood aloft on the dais between the two walkways. Our people crowded around the pit on the raised and tiered platforms that could serve as seats; however, few would actually sit down upon them.
